Why not find out about the International Walk to School Week? We think walking to school is important for lots of reasons.
If you live too far from school and feel you need the bus then why not investiaget schools nearer your home, public transports available to school, school bus services, or at least car pooling to ensure that fewer parents have to take cars to school. If you have no public transport to school then contact your local authority for help and advice. International Walk to School week is at the start of October Visit the official walk to school website International Walk to School Week: Monday 3rd - Friday 7th October 2005
Please take part! Why not walk every day with your kids to school. You all get exercise and can chat on the way!
Accidents happen outside schools where lots of parents drive to pick up and drop off children. The more parents who drive the worse the situation gets giving more parents concern about their child's safety and often causing them to drive too. Stop! Don't drive the kids to school!
This is an example of bad parking on the pavements and zigzag markings outside a school local to me. What to do if parents park badly outside school? Contact the police, the council's parking section, the school. What can happen? THe school can write to parents asking them to stop driving to school, or to park further away and walk the last distance making it safer for all. The council can send parking attendents and traffic wardens to monitor the problem and issue tickets where necessary. Parking restrictions can be introduced to make it illegal to park at all in the area during school times. Bollards can be added to the edge of pavements to prevent cars from mounting the pavement like this and injurying children.
Incredible amounts of parental traffic causing problems outside my local schools.
